How does endometriosis affect fertility? Endometriosis is recognized as a primacy cause of female infertility. In fact, 30-40% of women who are trying to conceive are diagnosed with infertility due to endometriosis. Many theories have explained why endometriosis will cause infertility in women. Some suspect that endometriosis is linked to an idiosyncrasy in woman’s immune system, which brings about an autoimmune disorder, or makes the sufferers more likely to miscarry. Others believe irregular hormone levels in women with endometriosis contributes to infertility(Gypta et al.,2008) One culprit that nearly all researchers can reach a consensus on is mechanical dysfunction, which often accompanied by endometrial adhesions attached to the delicate structures of the reproductive tract. Endometrial adhesions may stick to one or both ovaries, causing ovulation problems or decreasing their ability to release an egg. And adhesions can block fallopian tubes by squeezing them closed from the outside or by blocking them from the inside. It is clinically studied that endometriosis located on or near the uterus can cause uterine spasm or painful periods, decreasing the opportunity for implantation, or causing miscarriage. Endometriosis which attaches to the nearby bowels may cause painful bowel movements, back or intestinal pain. In brief, adhesions within the reproductive tract can cause pain anywhere in the back or pelvis, result in painful menstruation and urination, and lead to intercourse pain, as well as infertility. Commonly, there are numerous options available for women who are diagnosed with endometriosis related to infertility. Scientific data shows that women tend to resort to laparoscopic surgery. In fact, pregnancy rate after laparoscope surgery vary depending on the severity of women’ s conditions, namely, the endometriosis stages. Women with stage 1-2 endometriosis will have a greater success in conceiving than women with stage3-4.(Cirpan et al.,2013) This is because women with stage 3-4 mostly have so deep endometrial implants that a surgeon cannot remove them unless damaging the organ or tissue. Furthermore, a study published on Fertility and Sterility found that endometriosis was most likely to regrow in the places where the abnormal tissues were removed during laparoscopic surgery. The study also found that unaffected region next to endometriosis was more likely to develop endometriosis after laparoscope. However, in recent years, with the introduction of natural remedies for endometriosis, women have higher rate to get pregnant non-surgically. Herbs, as one of the natural remedies, greatly improve women’ s success in have a baby and militate against the side effect to women as surgeries do.
